Christman Facility Solutions is looking for an Assistant Project Manager in our Grand Rapids region.
The Assistant Project Manager understands the details that make a construction project successful and stays a step ahead of the team's needs, bringing order to the demanding and fast-paced construction environment. They will assist and support the Project Managers and Project Superintendents in managing and coordinating construction activities. Primary responsibilities include change management, monitoring and updating the project schedule with assistance from the Project Superintendent, overseeing the submittal and RFI process, managing subcontractor relations, preparing and submitting owner change orders, records and distributes project meeting minutes, and manages the closeout process.
What You Will Do: As an Assistant Project Manager, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Produce and organize project documents consistent with Christman's risk management standards ensuring they are readily accessible for team members.
- Proactively prepare project documents for close-out, turnover, and archiving to allow efficient final compilation and delivery on schedule. Secure all contractually required documents, including safety programs, MSDS documents, insurance policies, and supplier prior to project commencement.
- Process close-out of all subcontracts as work concludes.
- Assist the Project Manager with compiling the project billing according to established contractual requirements, including timely receipt of waivers.
- Assist Project Manager with the review, approval, and processing of trade contractor and supplier invoices.
- Accurately summarize important discussions, questions, and decisions raised during regular project team meetings, owner meetings, and weekly subcontractor meetings.
- On a rolling basis, accurately identify and list items of incomplete work based on comparison of contract documents to work-in-place in each area and for each trade contractor. Partner with client and architect to establish punch list contents.
- Utilize current technology to expedite the punch list process ensuring it is completed within 30 days after substantial completion.
- Responsible for overseeing all procurement, material tracking, inspection, and on-site storage.
- Update contract drawings to reflect all approved changes and ensure trade contractor documents updates.
- Monitor quality of work and compliance with construction documents,
- Assist in gathering and posting all required safety information and signage to inform all workers and site visitors about site hazards and confirm appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including mandatory hardhats and safety glasses is worn at all times.
- Set a good example to all ELP's by wearing appropriate safety attire while on the job site.
- Model safety awareness and planning at all times. Observe safety practices and report anything to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
- Plan logistics for all safety initiatives in the project-specific safety manual.
- Complete assigned and required training for this role.

What You Will Bring to the Team: Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related job field.
- Minimum three (3) years of construction related industry experience.
- Or equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

- Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons. As part of our focus on being a Great Place to Work, we want to make sure we are clear on a few more basics we expect:
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach (with hands and arms), climb, balance stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
